About Us

Expertise Events is a family-owned Australian business with three family members actively involved in the day to day running. Established more than three decades ago by Gary Fitz-Roy, the company first ran an event called Parenthood where a new band called The Wiggles performed one of their first acts as a children’s entertainer. Closely followed by the International Jewellery Fair which Expertise still runs, and then the Book Fair – an event which led to the establishment of the Needlework, Craft & Art Fair now renamed as the Craft & Quilt Fair. The Craft Fair was sponsored at the time by The Australian Women’s Weekly with Craft Editor Judy Newman overseeing The Weekly’s involvement in it. Gary and Judy married soon after the first fair and the rest, as they say is history. We are pleased to welcome our oldest son Zac into the business now.

Like all family businesses, we support each other, we keep each other on track and we roll with the challenges. Then we call a halt to any shop talk at 8pm each night for a little peace and quiet!

We’re proud to have been able to bring craftspeople and craft retailers together over the years, and to present amazing displays and activities.

Highlights of past fairs have included seminars by Kaffe Fassett and Tula Pink, an exhibition by quilt artist Danny Amazonas from Taiwan, guest artists embroiderer Cecile Franconie and crochet designer Kerry Lord, and displays including quilts from all around the world, antique Japanese boro from the Amuse Museum in Tokyo, Japanese quilts and the international QuiltCon travelling display.

We have always provided space for guild exhibitions and networking and have been proud sponsors of annual state Quilt Guild exhibitions around the country for more than 25 years.

Our team includes around 18 amazing people, who work in areas of event planning, sales, marketing, design and administration.

Expertise Events has a long history of organising exhibitions and events in a variety of markets and industries. With yearly involvement in around 30 events we have a passion for delivering a personal and professional experience for visitors and exhibitors, with a focus on community support.
