Touring AP&Q AQC Challenge Quilts
Be inspired by intricate details, fabrics & embellishments in this entrancing display.
Finalist entries from the inaugural challenge of the Australasian Quilt Convention (AQC) will tour with the Craft & Quilt Fair this year. Sponsored by Australian Patchwork & Quilting magazine, and with the theme of Fantasy, the AP&Q AQC Challenge, with $7500 prize money up for grabs, generated some amazing entries from all around Australia and various places overseas.
Crowds of people gathered to see the incredible detail of the entry by Denise Sargo who won the challenge for her imaginative portrayal of a mythical woodland scene in her quilt, When the Sun Goes Down. Denise has not won a major award previously, and was pleasantly surprised by the result. She admits that she loves playing with fabrics and with a background in embroidery, the project was one which she began with the aim of doing something more intricate. The piece is heavily embellished with stitching and illustrates incredible detail.
