Presented by Australian Lace Guild - Tasmanian Branch
Visitors will enjoy a gorgeous display of handmade lace with a garden theme at this year’s fair. Over the past few months guild members have been working to create a garden full of lace projects including flowers, frogs, swans and more. A popular lace stitch, and one that is easily recognised, is the spider, and there will be a number of these hand-crafted arachnids on show. Members will also exhibit work from their personal collections.
Why not come along and try your hand at this traditional craft? Each hour, one visitor will be able to book a free lesson with an experienced lacemaker to learn more about bobbin lace making and complete a ‘snake’ bookmark – a chance to make your own family heirloom! The guild will also have a demonstration lacemaking pillow and everyone is welcome to try making a few rows of lace.
The Australian Lace Guild welcomes all people interested in lace – collectors, historians, toolmakers, and of course lacemakers. Lace varieties made at their meetings include bobbin lace, needle lace, tatting, filet and crochet. Talk with members at the fair to learn more about the guild and its activities in Tasmania.
